Hand Werke 2002

Hand Werke is an assemblage of five megalithic boulders, ranging in weight from 2.5 t to 6 t. Three of these are carved into hands and two are shaped as random rocks. The total weight is ca 20 t, the highest elevation: 4' 10'.

The work is a commission by Sound Transit of Washington State, a gift to the City of Everett for their new Train Station. The Commission is a voluntary 1% for the Arts project on the part of Sound Transit.

The sculptures are by design visitor interactive and will be installed in a landscaped platform access area of 45' by 25'. Installation is pending.

The artist has used local glacial granite boulders from the Cascade Mountains.
The design is based on the principle of giving equal importance to the natural boulder shape of the rocks and the sculpted form of stylized hands.
